City Lose the Manchester Derby
City Lose the Manchester Derby
In an unforgettable game, Manchester United defeated their city rivals 2-1, in what was a smash and grab late in the match to claim all 3 points. Manchester City’s woes continue as they are now 1-11 in their last twelve matches, an unthinkable stretch for the defending champions.
Manchester City got off to a good start with a corner goal, headed in by Gvardiol who continues to be full of goals this year.
For much of the match City were in control but failed to score another which would have put the game out of reach. For fans of the beautiful game, we all know that when you are on top, you must make the most of it and if you don’t, the tide can quickly turn.
And turn it did…after a terrible back pass by Nunes, he made a nightmarish situation even more worse by fouling the Manchester United player, Amad, in the box. An easy PK decision for the referee which was subsequently converted by Captain, Bruno Fernandes.
With minutes left in the match, Martinez lofted a home run ball over the top which Man City made an absolute meal out of. First by letting it bounce, then with the keeper out of position, Amad got a touch, rounded the keeper and slotted it in. Even though it looked like the city defenders were in position to clear it off the line, they somehow both missed the game saving opportunity. A well taken goal by Amad, but one in which he should have never had an opportunity to get.
The final whistle blew, and City fans, and Pep were left silent and in shock as United took all 3 points. City continue to struggle without Rodri, and without good form in Foden and Silva. Sloppy play from City defenders have compounded their problems and perhaps a lack of adjustment from a tactical point of view. With Haaland healthy, City would be wise to use the star forward more instead of having to wait for final third balls.
